NDA MPs hold march in Parliament over alleged police action against Jharkhand students

 

NDA held a march inside the Parliament premises over alleged police action against students in Jharkhand. The MPs were carrying placards alleging that the Opposition is avoiding discussion, despite the government’s assurance that Home Minister Amit Shah is ready to respond to the student protests. The march took place after the NDA Parliamentary meeting, Mangal Milan.

Union Minister Anupriya Patel accused the Opposition of deliberately disrupting the functioning of Parliament. Talking to the media, Ms Patel said the Opposition had initially raised the issue of the paper leak and demanded the resignation of the Education Minister, which was accepted by the government. She said that despite the acceptance of their demands, opposition parties are not ready for discussion.

Union Minister and BJP MP from Ranchi Sanjay Seth said that the entire Jharkhand is closed today. Mr Seth accused the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand government of using force to suppress the voices of protesting students. He also criticised Chief Minister Hemant Soren for his insensitivity regarding the matter.

BJP General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh accused Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi of having double standards on students’ issues. Mr Chugh termed the police action against students in Jharkhand as unfortunate. He asserted that the country will not tolerate this.

BJP MP from New Delhi Bansuri Swaraj accused Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi of creating disruption in parliamentary proceedings, shifting the goalposts of discussions and adopting political double standards. She claimed that Mr Gandhi demands answers from the government while simultaneously obstructing the functioning of the House.
