Jharkhand’s ‘Nayi Disha-Nayi Pahal’ anti-Naxal campaign achieved a major breakthrough today as 16 active Maoists from the Kolhan and Latehar regions surrendered before the Jharkhand Police in Ranchi.
The surrendered cadres include one Regional Commander, three Zonal Commanders, three Sub-Zonal Commanders, six Area Commanders and three cadre-level members, including 15 lakh rupees rewardee Regional Commander Santosh alias Basudev. Director General of Police Tadasha Mishra said the surrendered Maoists would receive the benefits of the state government’s rehabilitation policy.
During the surrender, the Maoists handed over 11 sophisticated firearms, 38 magazines and 1,562 rounds of ammunition to the police. The surrender was the result of the joint Operation Navjeevan-II carried out by Jharkhand Police, the CRPF, CoBRA and Jharkhand Jaguar.
