INS Malvan commissioned into Indian Navy

 

The Indian Navy inducted the second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft of the Mahe class, INS Malvan, at Karwar in Karnataka today. This is a significant achievement in India’s indigenous warship building. Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, was the chief guest at the ceremony. Speaking on this occasion, Air Chief Marshal A. P. Singh appreciated the Navy for its efforts towards atmanirbharata and said that INS Malvan will play a crucial role in the maritime security of the country’s coastal region.

INS Malvan, an anti-submarine watercraft built by Cochin Shipyard under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat mission, uses more than 80 percent indigenous equipment and technology. Armed with RBU 6000 rockets and DRDO torpedoes and a German-Indian sonar suite, it can play a dominant role in guarding our undersea defence. This Mahe-class warship is a testament to the country’s growing capability in warship construction and our growing strength in maritime security and anti-submarine warfare.
