VP Radhakrishnan Highlights India’s Wildlife Riches on World Wildlife Day

On the occasion of World Wildlife Day today, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan said that the day serves as a reminder to celebrate the extraordinary diversity of wild fauna and flora that sustains the planet. In a social media post, Mr Radhakrishnan noted that India takes immense pride in being a global leader in wildlife conservation. He underlined that the country is home to the largest share of the world’s wild tigers and one-horned rhinoceros, a significant population of Asiatic elephants, and the only natural habitat of the majestic Asiatic lion in the wild.

Complementing this rich fauna, the Vice President highlighted that India also boasts over 17 thousand species of flowering plants, diverse forest ecosystems in the Western Ghats and Eastern Himalayas, and expansive mangrove habitats that strengthen the nation’s ecological resilience.

He urged every citizen to reaffirm their commitment to not only to conserve the rich biodiversity of India but also to restore critical species and ecosystems. Mr Radhakrishnan also acknowledged and appreciated the tireless efforts of conservationists who work to safeguard the country’s natural heritage for future generations.
