Final ODI between India & England to be played today at Lord’s

7/19/2026 01:08:00 PM

The series-deciding third ODI between India and England will be played today at Lord’s in London. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM Indian Standard Time.

All-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out with a right hamstring injury sustained during the second ODI match in Cardiff.

In his absence, the selectors have drafted in spin-bowling all-rounder Harsh Dubey for today’s contest.

India began the series with a six-wicket win at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, powered by Axar Patel’s all-round brilliance.

However, England bounced back to level the series in Cardiff, thanks to Joe Root’s composed 99 under pressure. Still searching for their first series victory of the UK tour, India will be eager to seal the decider at Lord’s and end the campaign on a high.

BJP describes govt’s E20 as one of India’s biggest public policy successes

7/19/2026 11:58:00 AM

The BJP has described the government’s Ethanol Blending Programme (E20) as one of India’s biggest public policy successes, saying it has boosted farmer incomes, strengthened energy security and reduced dependence on imported crude oil.

In a social media post, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya said the programme deserves a holistic, evidence-based assessment rather than partisan critique driven by political point-scoring, adding that public policy of such scale should be judged by measurable outcomes.

Calling the achievement of 20 per cent ethanol blending ‘one of India’s most consequential policy successes’, he said the initiative had simultaneously advanced farmer welfare, rural development, cooperative institutions, energy security and environmental sustainability.

Citing official figures, Mr Malviya said the programme had generated an estimated 1.66 lakh crore rupees in earnings for farmers and helped save 1.98 lakh crore rupees in foreign exchange by reducing crude oil imports since the Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2014-15.

According to him, the initiative has also substituted 317 lakh metric tonnes of imported crude oil and reduced 952 lakh metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

Mr Malviya further noted that the ethanol economy has improved cash flows for sugar mills by creating an additional revenue stream, enabling quicker payments to sugarcane farmers.

FIFA world cup final fever grips Kolkata; state govt organises giant screen at important places

7/19/2026 11:56:00 AM

Kolkata, affectionately called the football capital of India, is in the grip of World Cup final fever as fans gear up for the high-octane final between Argentina and Spain. Streets across the city are draped in the colors of their favorite teams, with giant flags fluttering from rooftops and murals of football legends painted on walls.

West Bengal government is organising giant screen public screenings at various important places and across all state districts to accommodate massive crowds for the late-night clash. For many here, it’s not just a match – it’s a festival of passion, identity, and dreams. More from our correspondent:

Kolkata will stay awake tonight. So will the whole of Bengal. The FIFA World Cup final may be taking place thousands of miles away in New Jersey, but its excitement has reached every home in the state.

Even though India is not part of the World Cup, football lovers across Bengal have immersed themselves in the global celebration. Neighbourhoods have been decked out in blue and white, and Lionel Messi jerseys are everywhere.

The traditional Mohun Bagan-East Bengal rivalry has taken a back seat, as have political differences. For now, football is the only passion that unites everyone.

Defending champions Argentina takes on European champions Spain in what promises to be a thrilling final. The result will be decided on the pitch, but in terms of public support, Argentina clearly enjoys the edge.

The West Bengal Sports Department has arranged public screenings of the final at Nandan and the Ektara Open-Air Stage in Kolkata, besides venues across several districts.

Giant screens have also come up at neighbourhood clubs, housing complexes and multiplexes. Special food arrangements are being made at various restaurants, while many fans have even begun offering prayers and performing rituals for the success of their favourite team.

After all, for Bengalis, football remains the greatest of all games. And tonight, Bengal will once again be swept away by the magic of the beautiful game.

US military launches new airstrikes against Iran

7/19/2026 11:52:00 AM

The US military has launched new airstrikes against Iran to punish the Iranian Revolutionary Guard for an attack in Jordan that killed two American service members, left one missing and four requiring hospitalisation.

US Central Command said the strikes were designed to further degrade Iran’s ability to restrict the traffic of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.

The waterway accounted for roughly 20 per cent of global oil supplies before the war.

The new strikes came after the US military announced its first troop deaths from direct Iranian fire since the opening days of the war, following a drone and missile attack on a base in Jordan on Friday.

US-Iran fighting over Strait of Hormuz escalates with attacks on key infrastructure and military targets

7/19/2026 11:51:00 AM

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, today announced that Tehran has suspended its commitments under the recently signed Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United States, accusing Washington of breaching the agreement.

According to Iranian media, Gharibabadi said the two sides had been engaged in negotiations, but the United States allegedly violated its obligations under the MoU by carrying out what he described as aggressive actions. He further stated that the United States had practically violated and suspended all of its commitments, adding that Iran had also responded by suspending its own obligations under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

The announcement came amid the United States and Iran exchanging fresh strikes today as fighting over the Strait of Hormuz intensified. The heaviest damage was reported in Kuwait, where Iranian strikes hit a water desalination plant and an oil facility, injuring several people and disrupting power generation. It was the second attack on a desalination plant in two days, raising concerns in a country that relies on desalination for about 90 per cent of its drinking water.

The Kuwait Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attacks, calling them heinous Iranian aggression targeting critical civilian infrastructure, and accused Iran of violating international law. On the other hand, the US Central Command said its latest strikes targeted Iranian surveillance sites, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage, and maritime capabilities this morning.

Iranian authorities said at least 50 people have been killed and more than 500 injured in US strikes in the past three weeks, including eight killed in a strike on a bridge yesterday. The conflict has increasingly centred on the Strait of Hormuz following the collapse of an interim ceasefire.

In a social media post Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy today said the strikes targeted two significant logistical facilities used to supply sanctioned components for drone production and navigation equipment. Iran’s strikes force closure of Kuwait’s airspace

7/19/2026 11:49:00 AM

Iran launched a barrage of missile and drone attacks on Kuwait today as its conflict with the United States intensified. The strikes forced the closure of Kuwait’s airspace, suspended all flight operations and damaged parts of the country’s power and water desalination infrastructure.

Air raid sirens sounded across Kuwait from the early hours, and authorities advised people to remain indoors and take shelter after missiles launched from Iran entered Kuwaiti airspace. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, IRGC, claimed it targeted the Arifjan Ground Forces Support Centre in Kuwait during the 18th phase of its Operation Nasr 2. It alleged that several US troops stationed at the facility were killed.

The IRGC also claimed it carried out a drone strike on the radar installation at the US Ali Al Salem Air Base. It further said its naval forces targeted the US Navy’s fuel support pier at Kuwait’s Al Ahmadi Port with drones and missiles and struck a US signalling and communications hub in the country. These claims have not been independently verified.

According to Media reports, Kuwait closed its airspace and Kuwait Airways suspended all inbound and outbound flights at Kuwait International Airport. The airline said the decision was taken because of the rapidly deteriorating security situation.

The strikes also affected essential services. Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said a fire broke out at a section of a power and water desalination plant following the attacks.
