US President Donald Trump said the United States had agreed to hold off a planned military attack on Iran after Tehran and several Middle Eastern countries requested a pause, claiming that the framework of a potential agreement had been reached. In a social media post Trump today said the US remained fully prepared for military action but had decided to suspend the planned strike to allow diplomacy to move forward.

He said Iran and other countries in the Middle East had urged Washington to delay military action because “the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to. According to Trump, the proposed agreement would include the Immediate, Complete, and total opening of Hormuz Strait, and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat. Iran had not officially confirmed the claims made by the US President.

Earlier, Trump has threatened to intensify military action against Iran, warning that American strikes will continue until Tehran halts attacks on shipping and returns to negotiations. United States has also urged its citizens across the Middle East to remain alert and be prepared to leave if tensions escalate. Meanwhile, Iran warned that it is ready to strike key Israeli infrastructure and American energy facilities across the West Asia if it comes under attack.

Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo remains out of control: WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo remains out of control, with cases rising, geographic spread widening and the risk of cross-border transmission to neighbouring countries increasing.

WHO said the outbreak is now the country’s largest ever, with 3,605 confirmed cases and 1,587 deaths reported till Thrusday, a fatality rate of 44 percent. In epidemiological week 30, the outbreak recorded its highest weekly number of reported cases, with 567 cases and 296 deaths.

WHO said insecurity, population displacement and mobility are complicating response efforts and heightening the risk of further spread.

Andhra Pradesh, Australia Sign Four MoUs to Strengthen Cooperation in Key Sectors

Governments of Andhra Pradesh and Australia have signed four Memoranda of Understanding in Amaravati today to strengthen cooperation in clean energy, advanced manufacturing, inclusive education, student mental health and skill development.

One of the agreements provides for a technology-enabled pilot project on student mental health in selected higher educational institutions. The programme, to be jointly implemented by the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education and Australia’s Rebound, will provide students with access to mental health resources, wellness assessment tools and virtual counselling services while ensuring privacy.

The agreements were signed in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education, IT and Electronics Nara Lokesh and Australia’s Assistant Minister for International Education, Citizenship, Customs and Multicultural Affairs, Julian Hill.

Earlier, an Australian delegation led by Mr. Hill met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Amaravati. The Chief Minister highlighted the state’s rapid economic growth and invited Australian institutions and businesses to expand investment and collaboration in Andhra Pradesh.

Indonesia: Five dead, 41 missing after ferry catches fire off Madura Island

In Indonesia, five persons lost their lives and 41 are still missing after a ferry carrying 271 passengers and crew caught fire while at sea off Madura Island today. Country’s Search and Rescue Agency said, of those on board, 225 have been rescued so far.

The agency said, the captain of the ship reported the fire as the vessel sailed from the country’s second-largest city, Surabaya in East Java province, to Makassar in South Sulawesi. A search and rescue operation is underway as teams work to locate the missing passengers.

नई दिल्ली: भारत की अर्थव्यवस्था चालू वित्त वर्ष 2026-27 की पहली तिमाही (अप्रैल-जून) में लगभग 7 प्रतिशत की मजबूत वृद्धि दर्ज कर सकती है। यह अनुमान मजबूत आर्थिक संकेतकों, औद्योगिक गतिविधियों में सुधार और निर्यात में तेज़ी के आधार पर लगाया गया है।

एसबीआई रिसर्च की प्री-मौद्रिक नीति समिति (Pre-MPC) रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, यह अनुमान भारतीय रिज़र्व बैंक (RBI) के पहले के अनुमानों से बेहतर है। रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि वैश्विक भू-राजनीतिक चुनौतियों के बावजूद भारत की घरेलू अर्थव्यवस्था ने उल्लेखनीय मजबूती और लचीलापन दिखाया है।

रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, अप्रैल-जून तिमाही के दौरान कई प्रमुख आर्थिक संकेतकों में उल्लेखनीय सुधार दर्ज किया गया। जून में घरेलू यात्री वाहनों की बिक्री में 24 प्रतिशत से अधिक, बिजली की मांग में 11 प्रतिशत से अधिक, निर्यात में 15 प्रतिशत से अधिक, औद्योगिक ऋण में 19 प्रतिशत से अधिक तथा औद्योगिक उत्पादन सूचकांक (IIP) में 7 प्रतिशत से अधिक की वृद्धि दर्ज की गई। ये आंकड़े देश में मजबूत आर्थिक गतिविधियों का संकेत देते हैं।

एसबीआई रिसर्च ने अपनी रिपोर्ट में कहा है कि पश्चिम एशिया में जारी तनाव के कारण वैश्विक अनिश्चितताएं बनी हुई हैं, लेकिन भारत की अर्थव्यवस्था ने इन परिस्थितियों में भी मजबूती दिखाई है।

रिपोर्ट में यह भी कहा गया है कि बेहतर मानसून आने वाले महीनों में आर्थिक विकास को और गति दे सकता है। जुलाई में हुई अच्छी बारिश के कारण देश में वर्षा की कमी घटकर लगभग 13 प्रतिशत रह गई है। जलाशयों का जलस्तर सामान्य स्तर पर पहुंच गया है, जबकि खरीफ फसलों की बुवाई पिछले वर्ष की तुलना में केवल 4.7 प्रतिशत कम है। इससे कृषि उत्पादन और ग्रामीण अर्थव्यवस्था को मजबूती मिलने की उम्मीद है।

विशेषज्ञों का मानना है कि यदि औद्योगिक उत्पादन, निर्यात और कृषि क्षेत्र में यही रफ्तार बनी रही, तो भारत की आर्थिक वृद्धि आने वाली तिमाहियों में भी मजबूत बनी रह सकती है।

सोलन, 30 जुलाई। मादक पदार्थों की तस्करी के खिलाफ चलाए जा रहे अभियान के तहत सोलन पुलिस की एसआईयू (स्पेशल इन्वेस्टिगेशन यूनिट) ने बड़ी सफलता हासिल की है। पुलिस ने चम्बाघाट के समीप स्थित एक होटल में छापेमारी कर 41.08 ग्राम चिट्टा (हेरोइन) बरामद किया है। इस कार्रवाई के दौरान एक महिला सहित तीन लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया गया है।

एएसपी राजकुमार चंदेल ने बताया कि पुलिस को गुप्त सूचना मिली थी कि होटल के एक कमरे में मादक पदार्थ मौजूद हैं। सूचना के आधार पर एसआईयू टीम ने चम्बाघाट स्थित होटल के कमरा नंबर 303 में दबिश दी।

तलाशी के दौरान कमरे में ठहरे तीन व्यक्तियों के कब्जे से 41.08 ग्राम चिट्टा बरामद हुआ। पुलिस ने मौके पर ही तीनों आरोपियों को गिरफ्तार कर लिया।

गिरफ्तार आरोपियों की पहचान तुषार तरीखा (35) निवासी फाजिल्का (पंजाब), युवराज सिंह (25) निवासी लुधियाना (पंजाब) तथा संदीप कौर उर्फ नेहा (35) निवासी फाजिल्का (पंजाब) के रूप में हुई है।

पुलिस ने तीनों आरोपियों के खिलाफ पुलिस थाना सदर सोलन में एनडीपीएस अधिनियम के तहत मामला दर्ज कर लिया है। आरोपियों से पूछताछ की जा रही है ताकि यह पता लगाया जा सके कि मादक पदार्थ कहां से लाया गया था और इसकी सप्लाई किसे की जानी थी। मामले की जांच जारी है।

Moscow: Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has charged Telegram founder Pavel Durov with allegedly facilitating terrorist activities and has initiated the process of placing him on the international wanted list, according to Russian state media.

The FSB claims that Telegram failed to remove channels, chats, and bots that were allegedly used by Ukrainian intelligence agencies to coordinate attacks inside Russia. Authorities also allege that Telegram’s dating services were used to recruit Russian citizens for terrorist-related activities.

According to Russian legal experts, Durov could face arrest in absentia as part of legal proceedings aimed at seeking his extradition through Interpol. Russian media reports suggest that, if convicted, the charges could carry a potential life sentence under Russian law.

Pavel Durov has not publicly responded to the latest allegations.

This is not the first time Durov has faced legal scrutiny. He has previously been investigated in France over allegations that illegal content on Telegram, including child sexual abuse material, fraud, and drug trafficking, was not adequately addressed by the platform.

धर्मशाला/कांगड़ा: हिमाचल प्रदेश के कांगड़ा जिले में कथित भूमि घोटाले ने प्रशासन और जांच एजेंसियों की चिंता बढ़ा दी है। प्रारंभिक जांच में सामने आया है कि फर्जी कृषक प्रमाणपत्रों का इस्तेमाल कर 100 कनाल से अधिक कृषि भूमि की खरीद-फरोख्त की गई। अब तक 68 संदिग्ध भूमि सौदे जांच एजेंसियों के रडार पर हैं और विजिलेंस ने मामले में एफआईआर दर्ज कर विस्तृत जांच शुरू कर दी है।

जांच के अनुसार, गैर-कृषक होने के बावजूद आरोपियों ने कथित रूप से फर्जी दस्तावेजों के आधार पर कृषक का दर्जा हासिल किया और धारा 118 से जुड़े नियमों का उल्लंघन करते हुए जमीन खरीदी। आरोप है कि मुख्य आरोपी और उसके परिवार के सदस्यों के नाम पर बड़ी मात्रा में कृषि भूमि का लेन-देन किया गया, जिसे बाद में विभिन्न माध्यमों से आगे बेचा गया।

विजिलेंस की जांच में राजस्व विभाग के कुछ तत्कालीन अधिकारियों की भूमिका भी जांच के दायरे में बताई जा रही है। प्रारंभिक स्तर पर पटवारी, कानूनगो, नायब तहसीलदार, तहसीलदार और सब-रजिस्ट्रार स्तर के अधिकारियों के रिकॉर्ड की भी जांच की जा रही है। हालांकि अंतिम जिम्मेदारी का निर्धारण जांच पूरी होने के बाद ही होगा।

जांच एजेंसियों ने संबंधित भूमि अभिलेखों और दस्तावेजों को अपने कब्जे में लेकर उनकी गहन पड़ताल शुरू कर दी है। साथ ही आरोपियों से जुड़े भूमि सौदों पर निगरानी बढ़ा दी गई है ताकि जांच पूरी होने तक किसी भी प्रकार के नए लेन-देन को रोका जा सके।

विशेषज्ञों का मानना है कि यदि जांच में आरोप सही पाए जाते हैं तो यह मामला हिमाचल प्रदेश के चर्चित भूमि मामलों में शामिल हो सकता है। वहीं प्रशासन का कहना है कि दोषी पाए जाने वाले किसी भी व्यक्ति के खिलाफ कानून के अनुसार कार्रवाई की जाएगी।

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said that India’s merchandise exports have registered 15 per cent growth so far in the current financial year, despite the Red Sea crisis and global turmoil.

He said that despite these headwinds, India’s merchandise exports have grown by 15 per cent during the April-July period. Delivering the JRD Tata Memorial Lecture 2026, Mr Goyal said the country’s merchandise exports remained resilient despite mounting geopolitical tensions and disruptions to global trade routes.

The Minister said India’s export performance reflects the strength of the country’s economic fundamentals, even as businesses worldwide grapple with uncertainty stemming from conflicts in West Asia and disruptions in key shipping corridors.

The Minister said the first quarter of the current financial year has been marked by persistent global challenges, including volatility in crude oil, petrol, diesel and gas markets, as well as uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and the continuing Red Sea crisis.

Highlighting India’s broader economic performance, Mr Goyal said the country remained the world’s fastest-growing major economy, recording 7.7 per cent growth in the previous financial year despite a lot of uncertainty around the world.

Lok Sabha passes anti-paper leak amendment bill with stricter punishment of up to 10 years in jail

The Lok Sabha has passed the anti-Paper leak bill, proposing tougher penalties and fast-track courts to curb examination malpractices. The Bill seeks to amend the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.

The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 incorporates several significant provisions, including stringent penalties such as imprisonment for up to ten years, fines of up to ten crore rupees, and seizure of the properties of convicted offenders. The legislation mandates every State Government and Union Territory Administration to establish Special Fast Track Courts for day-to-day trials.

Replying to the discussion on the Bill, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr Jitendra Singh said the amendment has been brought to make the law more stringent and ensure speedy justice in paper leak cases.

After the passage of the Bill, the Lower House was adjourned till 11 AM today.

Tata Memorial Lecture in New Delhi, Mr Goyal said the country must strive for excellence and ensure that Made in India products earn global respect through quality, innovation and competitiveness.

The Minister highlighted several initiatives to promote innovation, including the one lakh crore rupee Research, Development and Innovation Fund, the IndiaAI Mission and the Second Semiconductor Mission. He said these initiatives will further strengthen the country’s innovation ecosystem and accelerate the development of emerging technologies.

Mr Goyal said the Government is creating an enabling business environment by reducing the compliance burden, decriminalising outdated laws and improving the ease of doing business. He added that skill development should become an industry-led movement, supported by the Government through an enabling ecosystem. The Minister noted that India continues to remain the world’s fastest-growing major economy despite global uncertainties.

Calling upon industry to invest more in research, innovation and skill development, Mr Goyal urged entrepreneurs and investors to support home-grown deep-tech startups at an early stage and help them move from innovation to commercialisation and global scale.

The Commerce and Industry Minister also paid tribute to J.R.D. Tata, saying his vision of excellence, innovation and nation-building continues to inspire Indian industry. He expressed confidence that these values will help realise the vision of a developed India by 2047.

The Bihar Government has decided to reopen the closed sugar mills at Raiyam in Darbhanga and Sakri in Madhubani. A proposal to this effect was approved at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary yesterday.

Briefing the media, Additional Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar Choudhary said the Cabinet also approved the Bihar Sports Policy, 2026. The meeting also approved the implementation of schemes worth more than 97 crore rupees under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana for the financial year 2026-27.

In the urban development sector, under AMRUT 2.0, around 53.71 crore rupees was approved for the Kishanganj Water Supply Project and more than 150.96 crore rupees for the Lakhisarai Water Supply Project. The Cabinet also decided to establish pucca vermicompost, gobar biogas and commercial vermicompost units in all districts of the state.

Odisha remains on high alert as swollen rivers continue to threaten vast stretches of the state, even as the India Meteorological Department has forecast another spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

With the Mahanadi expected to witness a medium flood and several river basins under close surveillance, the administration has intensified relief and preparedness measures. Bhadrak continues to be the worst-affected district, while authorities have urged people in vulnerable areas not to leave designated relief centres.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has issued an Orange warning for Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Koraput districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall today, while Yellow warnings remain in force for 18 other districts.

Educational institutions have been closed in Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Bhadrak as a precautionary measure. The State Government has cancelled the leave of officers in eight districts to ensure uninterrupted disaster response. Authorities maintain that the overall flood situation is under control and have appealed to people in vulnerable areas to remain in designated relief centres until conditions improve.

Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia has launched the theme for the 10th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026 in New Delhi. The 10th edition of Asia’s largest digital technology forum will be held from 7th to 10th October in New Delhi.

Organised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), IMC 2026 will bring together global technology leaders, telecom operators, innovators, startups, investors, researchers and policymakers to shape the next phase of India’s digital transformation.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Scindia said the theme, ‘Scale without Boundaries’, reflects India’s ambition to take its telecom innovations, technologies and digital solutions beyond national borders for global benefit. He said the next phase of India’s telecom journey should focus on exporting home-grown innovations and shaping global technology standards.

Mr Scindia said nearly 500 million people have been connected to 5G services within two-and-a-half years through investments of about 4.5 lakh crore rupees and the rollout of around five lakh telecom towers. He expressed confidence that 6G technology will integrate physical, digital and intelligence ecosystems, with India aiming to become a global leader in the field.

The Minister also said the 10th edition of IMC is anchored around four key pillars — Srishti (Building the Future), Suraksha (Strengthening Trust), Sashakt (Expanding Opportunities) and Samvardhan (Fueling Growth) — reflecting India’s vision of building a digitally empowered, secure and growth-oriented future.

Mr Scindia also highlighted initiatives such as the Bharat 6G Alliance, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for telecom manufacturing and the Sanchar Saathi portal, saying these are strengthening innovation, domestic manufacturing and digital security. He said IMC 2026 will showcase emerging technologies, including 5G, 6G, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, satellite communications, cloud and edge computing, quantum technologies and green technologies.

Addressing the gathering, Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, said the past decade has been unprecedented for India’s telecom sector and the India Mobile Congress provides a global platform to showcase the country’s achievements in telecommunications. He added that IMC also serves as a platform for collaboration between the government and industry, enabling startups to showcase their innovations while providing investors with opportunities to support India’s growing digital ecosystem.

Polling has begun for by-elections to three Assembly constituencies in Bihar, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Voting is taking place for the Bankipur constituency in Bihar, Manjalpur in Gujarat and Datia in Madhya Pradesh. Polling, which began at 7 AM, will continue till 6 PM.

In Bihar, the bye-election for the Bankipur seat was necessitated after BJP President Nitin Nabin vacated the Assembly seat following his election to the Rajya Sabha.

In Gujarat’s Manjalpur Assembly seat, the BJP has fielded Satish Patel, while the Congress has pitted Bhikhabhai Rabari against him. The Election Commission has introduced 100 per cent webcasting, mobile deposit counters outside polling stations and cVIGIL facilities for online complaints related to the Model Code of Conduct. The by-election was necessitated due to the death of BJP MLA Yogesh Patel, who had represented the Manjalpur Assembly constituency multiple times.

In Madhya Pradesh, the Datia seat became vacant due to the disqualification of Rajendra Bharti.

In a social media post, Mr Goyal said the meeting followed discussions on enhancing the country’s global competitiveness. During the meeting, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a stronger, more competitive and future-ready export ecosystem to support India’s economic growth and realise the vision of Viksit Bharat.

The meeting focused on leveraging Free Trade Agreements, promoting the Brand India initiative through quality-led exports, improving logistics and trade facilitation, expanding market access, and creating new opportunities for MSMEs and new exporters.
