| Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway to be inaugurated today |
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway this afternoon. The leaders will inspect the expressway before inaugurating it at kilometre 49 in Unnao.
The 63-kilometre, six-lane Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway features India’s second-longest elevated corridor. It is also the country’s first expressway to be built using automated and intelligent machine-guided construction technology.
Equipped with AI-based speed enforcement systems, emergency call boxes at every two kilometres and two integrated 24×7 control rooms, the expressway has been designed for speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour. It is expected to reduce the travel time between Lucknow and Kanpur to 35 to 45 minutes. The toll for cars has been fixed at 275 rupees, while two-wheelers will not be permitted on the expressway.
