सीटू के प्रदेशाध्यक्ष विजेंद्र मेहरा, महासचिव प्रेम गौतम, उपाध्यक्ष जगत राम और महासचिव शांति देवी ने कहा कि केंद्र की मोदी सरकार और प्रदेश की कांग्रेस सरकार की मिड डे मील कर्मी विरोधी नीतियों के खिलाफ यह आंदोलन किया जा रहा है। उन्होंने कहा कि प्रदेश में कार्यरत करीब 21 हजार मिड डे मील कर्मियों की स्थिति बेहद दयनीय है। उन्हें मात्र पांच हजार रुपए प्रतिमाह मानदेय दिया जाता है, जो कई-कई महीनों तक नहीं मिलता। उन्होंने कहा कि वेतन में राज्य और केंद्र की हिस्सेदारी भी समय पर जारी नहीं होती, जिसके कारण कर्मियों को कभी भी पूरा वेतन नहीं मिल पाता। यूनियन ने आरोप लगाया कि प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा निदेशक के आदेशों के बावजूद मिड डे मील कर्मियों से किचन गार्डन का काम, झाडिय़ां काटना, सफाई, पानी की टंकियां साफ करना और अन्य कई अतिरिक्त काम करवाए जाते हैं, लेकिन इसके लिए कोई अतिरिक्त भुगतान नहीं दिया जाता। यूनियन ने सरकार से मांग की है कि उच्च न्यायालय के आदेशों के अनुसार 12 महीने का वेतन लागू किया जाए, वेतन हर महीने की पहली तारीख को दिया जाए और कर्मियों को वेतन स्लिप भी उपलब्ध करवाई जाए। इसके अलावा आंगनबाड़ी और आशा कर्मियों की तर्ज पर साल में कम से कम 20 छुट्टियां, साल में दो वर्दी और महिला कर्मियों को रक्षाबंधन, करवाचौथ और भाई दूज पर वेतन सहित अवकाश दिया जाए।
